Genteknik i ett utmanande klassrum - vilka faktorer gör det svårt att undervisa om genteknik?
Abstract
In recent years the research in genetic engineering and biotechnology have
skyrocketed meaning there’s new tools and conditions caving the road for a
scientific future. This has an important role in the education and preparing
students for this scientific future.
To get an idea of how the new era of science in genetic engineering and
biotechnology area the report has gathered some of the research regarding the
difficulties for teachers and students to get thrown right into this subject that’s
a newer field in science.
The result for this report is gathered through five framing of questions - How
to bring teaching about GMO in the classroom from a media perspective?,
What factors make it difficult for the teacher to educate students in the
subject?, what ways are there to improve the education and to conquer the
misconceptions the students have?, how can a classroom culture with
argumentationmethodics improve teaching and counteract the
misconceptions? and which effects do models, practical tools and laborations
play for role regarding the learning for students? Genetic engineering is a
difficult area for science teachers to teach about because of the small amount
of space it gets. To improve the situation teachers need to get better starting
conditions to be ready to teach about it - these conditions contain in-service
training, pedagogical training and access to material and methods to improve
the students' engagements in the classroom.
