Adoption and use of instructional technology in Nigerian Universities. Exploring Faculty Members’ and Students’ Perspectives

Abstract

Aim: This study aims to explore faculty members' and students' perspectives on the adoption and use of instructional technology in Nigerian universities. Considering that, instructional technology can assist educators to deliver engaging, personalized, and interactive learning experiences in higher education. Theory: Extended technology acceptance model (TAM2) was adopted as the theoretical framework that guided the study. Method: This study was conducted using a generalized qualitative approach, where data were collected using semi-structured interviews. Eight faculty members and three students were recruited through purposive and convenience sampling technique and the interviews were conducted via Zoom. Results: The results revealed that both faculty members and students perceive instructional technology to be relevant and also an essential part of their teaching and learning process. The challenges highlighted were, lack of authority and control, lack of electricity and resources, attitude of faculty members, inadequate funding and training and time consumption. The opportunities for improvement reported were institutional and governmental support, training and rewards and incentives.
