This is an essay about translating from Norwegian to North Saami, from my second language to my mother tongue. A novel by Maria Gripe from 1979, about flowers, food and furniture. And about playing chess over the phone. This is a description of my attempt at bringing all the excitement I as a teenager experienced with this book, to life in North Saami. How to bring tropical insects, that are signs of what future is bringing, into the cold arctic home of my own language.en
