During the academic year of 2010/2011 the Schools for Music and Arts in Göteborg participated in a project entitled En kulturskola för alla (A School for Music and Arts for All). This thesis' objective is to describe the project as well as examine the method the Schools of Music and Arts use to include children with disabilities and what suggestions can be made to further develop the project. Through En kulturskolla för alla, approximately 200 children with disabilities now haave better teachers. The project included 18 music and arts teachers from eight schools. Some of the challenges that have arisen include problems with structural resources, communication, and cooperation with other institutions. In order to further develop the project, city officials must address these challenges with a long-term view in mind. Creating more projects would only be a short-term solution. A more sustainable response would be to develop a resource centre for the schools that could function as a continuation of the existing project.Item How to attract new audiences(2011-09-22) Seyzeriat, Beatrice; University of Gothenburg/Academy of Music and Drama; Göteborgs universitet/Högskolan för scen och musikWhat can be done to attract new audiences to cultural institutions? This thesis explains how a cultural institution can take measures to increase audience numbers and attract new listeners. With Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra as an example I try to review who are today's concert-goers and why classical music may or may not be popular in the society. Why is there a generation gap in the classical audience and will the younger generations fill this gap in the future? Who is supposed to teach us about and make us interested in classical music? The school, our parents or the cultural institutions?Item Listen To Your Body And Improve Your Music(2011-09-22) Belén Berenguer García, Ana; University of Gothenburg/Academy of Music and Drama; Göteborgs universitet/Högskolan för scen och musikItem Dreams - A Journey through Bach’s Chaconne(2011-12-20) Araújo Edlund, Margarida; University of Gothenburg/Academy of Music and Drama; Göteborgs universitet/Högskolan för scen och musik“Dreams” because I had the dream of being able to play Bach’s Chaconne. “Dreams” because through my interpretational work with the Chaconne, I entered spaces that I only can relate with dreams. “Dreams” because I experienced the night- mare in Munch’s The Scream. This thesis is about my interpretation of J. S. Bach’s Chaconne from Partita II in D minor (BWV 1004), and I use Edvard Munch’s painting The Scream as a source of inspiration. My question is: What happens when I use a work of art as a source of inspiration for the interpretation of a piece of music? The experiments, which I made, helped me to find a context and a content for the piece of music, and proved that by using images, when interpreting and playing music, I became more free in my playing, and I could play better. The aim of my work is to find ways of coming closer to the music I play, of investigating my artistic potential, and of managing the ghosts, which live inside me and tend to block my capabilities.Item Conflicts in contemporary music interpretation. Brunner-Lachenmann: a case approach(2012-03-05) Galindo Agúndez, Antonio; University of Gothenburg/Academy of Music and Drama; Göteborgs universitet/Högskolan för scen och musikClassical musicians have made a habit of reproducing again and again works written between two hundred and one hundred years ago. We even insist on calling to works written fifty to seventy five years ago contemporary music. Through their reflections on society, art and artists face doubts, conflicts, certainties and uncertainties better and faster than any other social influencing field. However they must be updated to the music produced at the time they live; then society can interact in art and performers could interact with composers. The second part consists of a case study in order to better picture the challenge involved in creating something from the very starting point, from the very genesis, surrounded by all its authenticity. Helmut Lachenmann and Eduard Brunner in their relationship during Dal niente creationItem Die Deutsche Konzertposaune. Utviklingen av tyske trombone fra 1800-1940.(2012-03-05) Sandem Strømsnes, Jens Inge; University of Gothenburg/Academy of Music and Drama; Göteborgs universitet/Högskolan för scen och musikHaving developed an awareness of regional differences within the trombone idiom during my studies, I became interested in exploring these, with a clear emphasis on that of the romantic German trombone which was developed during the 19th century and still enjoys a wide popularity in the German language area. The work has had a theoretical as well as a practical side; learning what are the established truths about this particular type of instruments and its idiom compared to other traditions, learning which developments might have brought about its advent, and exploring personally and subjectively what characterizes the sound, feel, and build of a relatively small selection of historic ”German” type trombones. I also discuss its applicability and relevance, especially in the contemporary Scandinavian music world.Item Composition Diary. Consequently, the study results in significant style elements that is realised and contextualised in new compositions. The final chapter discusses the importance of valuing a pastiche in relation to the style idiom. It points out that a good pastiche should present a balanced amount of style elements. Additionally, the chapter discusses the relation between analysis and composition, and it points out that an interaction between these two activities enables a deeper understanding of a certain style.Item Finding Sound Using Alban Berg's Violin Concerto(2012-06-18) Fitzgerald Cherry, Irene; University of Gothenburg/Academy of Music and Drama; Göteborgs universitet/Högskolan för scen och musikItem Approaching Piazzolla's music(2012-08-22) Löfdahl, Marcus; University of Gothenburg/Academy of Music and Drama; Göteborgs universitet/Högskolan för scen och musikThe aim of this degree project is to enhance the understanding of Astor Piazzolla’s musical style. The aim of this research is to show that by balancing composition, interpretation and improvisation, the performer(s) could produce or open the door to a reservoir of new sounds, which could emerge through a composer’s awareness of the need to balance these elements. That act of balancing depends on the musician’s interpretation through their interaction with the music notation, with their action process on the instrument and each other. This ultimately results in providing listeners’ with a possibility of the new and exiting sound experience.Item Det inre spelet(2012-10-22) Eklund, Sofia; University of Gothenburg/Academy of Music and Drama; Göteborgs universitet/Högskolan för scen och musikItem New Impro Ensemble Experience And Release Of The CD "HEM LJUS"(2012-11-15) Bozzolan, Luigi; University of Gothenburg/Academy of Music and Drama; Göteborgs universitet/Högskolan för scen och musikThe intention of this thesis is to analyze step by step entirely, the last part of the Master project, that represents my personal experience as organizer, composer, musician and conductor of the New Impro Ensemble, an orchestra composed of 11 musicians. This document is also an explanation of my two years of residence in Gothenburg and in particular it refers to the musical experiences as musician and student in the Academy of Music and Drama and in other musical context in Sweden. My sincere thanks go to Jonny Wartel, the first Swedish musician with which I played in Gothenburg.Item Cadenzas for 2 viola concertos(2013-01-15) Högström, Henrik; University of Gothenburg/Academy of Music and Drama; Göteborgs universitet/Högskolan för scen och musikThis work describes how I composed cadenzas for the viola concertos in D major by Carl Stamitz and Franz Anton Hoffmeister.
