El desafío de motivar a los alumnos de ELE - Análisis comparativo de dos manuales de enseñanza de ELE en torno a estrategias de aprendizaje de lengua, destrezas de lengua y motivación.

Abstract
Título de la tesina: El desafío de motivar a los alumnos de ELE, análisis comparativo dedos manuales de enseñanza de ELE en torno a estrategias de aprendizaje de lengua, destrezas de lengua y motivación. Nombre del autor: MarcelaVilches Furió The fact that a significant number of students drop out offoreign language subject(in this case Spanish)in Swedishschools, raised the question, among others, whether staff are using the appropriateteaching material. The question led to this study about motivational aspects in the teaching-learning process, focusing on teaching goals, learning strategies and development of language skills.Thegoal being to comparetwo didactic units,to find out if the one belonging to the “enfoque por tareas” (task/project approach) better met the requirements to trigger and maintain motivation,as defined by learning theory, than a unit belonging to a different teaching approach. Objective: The study wants to find out if the task/project approach of a didactic unit in the teaching manual Gente Joven 1, because of its didactical design and the type of activity it proposes to students, proves itself to meet a greater number of motivational factors as described by Ausubel and Crookes & Smith, than the unit in the manual Vale 8. If so, proving the task/project approach to be a better method fororganizingSpanishteaching. Method: The study makes a comparative analysis of the teaching manuals as to their teaching goals, the kind of activitiesthey providefor developing language skills and as how these two trigger the use of language learning strategies. All of these influence the level of interest and motivation of students in the teaching-learning process. Object of study:Two didactic units of the same theme “travel/vacations”,in two teaching manuals for Spanish as foreign language, are analyzed. Main results : Though the manual by the task/project approach proved to meet more motivational factors that the manual of the “communicative approach”, it does not prove the task/project approach to be the whole answer or solution for the drop out of the subject(LE). The concept of motivation is very hard to define by exact standards and many variables influencethe student`s persistance and involvement in learning a new language.
