Risbastur, fåraktiga vildar och gamla snålvargar – Kalle Anka-serier möter grundskolans värdegrund
Sammanfattning
Summary:
A relatively new educational project in Sweden, called Serier i undervisningen (Comics in the teaching process),
has been initiated by Egmont Publishing, the biggest company in the Scandinavian comics industry. The schools
that choose to take part in the project are provided with different kinds of teaching material, partly consisting of
a number of Donald Duck comics by famous american cartoonist Carl Barks (1901-000). This fact brings a few
important questions to mind: what kind of social values can be found in these comics from the middle of the 0th
century, and how do these values compare to the basic values that are stated in the curiculum for the Swedish
primary school? Through an analysis of the Donald Duck work of Barks, this thesis shows that many of the
values concerning parenting, ethnical stereotypes and class that are present in Barks’ work do not conform very
well to the mentioned curiculum. Finally, another goal with the analysis is to find out if there, after all, might be
possible to use Barks’ comics in the Swedish, modern day primary school.
