New Public Management in Universities: A structured literary review

Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to write a structured literary review on the subject of new public management in universities. The literature review provides a summary of the impact NPM has had on universities, and identifies the variables that are seen as essential by researchers for researching NPM in universities and combine them into a model. Articles published in scientific journals are used for the literature review, which follows the methodology of a structured literature review. The research is performed in two studies which analyse the literature and presents the essential variables for researching NPM in universities that have been identified. The first study focuses on two articles and provides an overview of the subject of new public management in universities. The second study reviews an additional ten articles and develops the findings from the first study. The results from the two studies are presented in a concluding discussion, which features a model consisting of the variables identified through the studies along with suggestions for future research.
