”¡PANDA DE VAGOS!” Un análisis sobre los estereotipos andaluces en películas españolas

Abstract
Andalusia, in spite of its size and historical importance, is the subject of a great many persistent and strikingly negative stereotypes, some of which have persisted for hundreds of years. By looking at the historical background of the region, as well as the science behind stereotypes, we investigate what these stereotypes are, why they’re so prominent, and how they are expressed and why in Ocho apellidos vascos and Ocho apellidos catalanes, two modern Spanish comedy movies which play heavily on the regional stereotypes and cultural differences in Spain with a typical Andalusian man as their protagonist. We discover that stereotypes in both comedies play on established convictions for humorous effect and to quickly convey the tone of the movies and the personalities of its casts.
