Konstmuseet som vardagsrum för alla, eller salong för de redan invigda? En komparativ studie mellan Göteborgs Konstmuseum och Whitney Museum of American Art i New York
Abstract
”The museum as a open living room for all, or as a closed institution for the already invited – A comparative studie between Gothenburg Museum of Art and Whitney Museum of American Art”
This project is a comparative study between Gothenburg Museum of Art and Whitney Museum of American Art. In the frames of art history, but in close relation to museology and sociology.
The museum as an institution, is often sponsored by money from taxes, and that gives museums a responsibility to serve the people of the city. But how well are the museums dealing with that responsibility? With the theoretically framework of Pierre Bourdieu, John Cotton Dana and Eilean Hooper Greenhill, I am analyzing my interviews with the staff at Gothenburg Museum of Art and Whitney Museum of American Art. I will go through different areas, as for example the pedagogy at the museums, the physical availability of the museums and the staffs views on their visitors.
