| dc.description | Background: There are large variations in access to different interventions for individuals
with tinnitus in Sweden. Several international studies indicate that patients seeking care for
tinnitus are often dissatisfied with the treatment provided by healthcare providers.
Aim: The aim of the study was to illuminate the experiences of adults seeking care for
tinnitus in primary care units, and to investigate whether there are differences based on sex or
age.
Research method: A web-based survey was distributed on two closed Facebook groups
offering support for people with tinnitus. The study population consisted of 83 adults with
tinnitus, of which 70% were female. Statistical analyses were made on the basis of sex and
age group. Free-text responses were compiled and coded into different categories.
Results: 87% of the respondents had sought help at a primary care unit for their tinnitus. The
majority felt that they had not been taken seriously and that there was a lack of knowledge
amongst healthcare staff. 86% of the respondents were referred to a specialist and a
statistically significant relationship (p=0,048) was seen between age and being referred. The
need for improvement was seen in the areas of treatment, knowledge, information and tinnitus
management.
Conclusion: The results of the study can not be generalised to the general population because
of the low response rate. However, the results give indications that several areas of tinnitus
care are perceived as lacking in quality and that improvements are desired in a number of
different areas in order for the care of tinnitus patients to become more acceptable, uniform
and equal across the country. National guidelines could show the way for the primary care
units and healthcare professionals who meet individuals with tinnitus. | sv |
| dc.description.abstract | Syfte: Syftet med studien var att belysa vuxnas erfarenheter av att söka vård för tinnitus via
vårdcentral, samt att undersöka om köns- eller åldersskillnader förelåg.
Forskningsmetod: En webbaserad enkät spreds via två slutna gruppforum för tinnitus på
Facebook. Studiepopulationen bestod av 83 vuxna personer, varav 70% kvinnor. Statistiska
analyser gjordes utifrån aspekter av kön samt åldersgrupp. Fritextsvar sammanställdes och
kodades i olika kategorier.
Resultat: 87% av respondenterna hade uppsökt vårdcentral för tinnitus. Merparten upplevde
att de inte blivit tagna på allvar och att det fanns kunskapsbrister hos vårdpersonal. 68% av
respondenterna blev remitterade till specialist och ett statistisk signifikant samband (p=0,048)
sågs mellan ålder och att bli remitterad. Behov av förbättringsarbete sågs bland annat inom
områdena bemötande, kunskap, information och åtgärder.
Konklusion: Resultatet av studien går inte att generalisera, då svarsfrekvensen var låg.
Resultatet gav dock indikationer om att flera områden inom tinnitusvården upplevs som
bristande samt att förbättringar önskas inom en rad olika områden för att vården av
tinnituspatienter ska bli mer godtagbar, enhetlig och jämlik över hela landet. Nationella
riktlinjer skulle kunna vara vägledande för landets vårdcentraler och vårdpersonal som möter
