The Inner Game och Mindfulness - En musikers mentala träning

The Inner Game and Mindfulness. A Musician’s Mental Training

Abstract
The purpose of the study was to find out what the experienced and audible effects on my flute playing would be, after having practised mental training according to The Inner Game and Mindfulness and to find out what factors The Inner Game and Mindfulness have in common. Recording myself doing exercises of The Inner Game and practising Mindfulness were the methods I used. This resulted in positive effects on my playing, such as presence, awareness, more energy and a bigger spectrum of tone colours, and a relaxed way of dealing with difficulties and challenges. The foundation of The Inner Game as well as of Mindfulness is the aim to use the curiosity of a child and to overcome fear and judgement by being aware in the present moment. I came to the conclusion that the two concepts are very similar, and that these, in combination, can have a positive effect on a musician’s performance.
