Skeppets utveckling i Skandinavien. En studie av järnålderns båtar och skepp i Skandinavien
Sammanfattning
The boat and ship have been an important part of the Scandinavian life ever since the first people arrived. The boat also provided the opportunity for longer trips within Sweden, Norway and Denmark and then outside Scandinavia. The period many associate with early Scandinavia is the Viking age and the Viking ships. In this study, I will look at the development of ship technology and shipbuilding in Scandinavia during the Iron Age. I will use the material available from the oldest Scandinavian boat, the Hjortspring boat to the Viking ship Skuldelev 2. The clearest development in technology is the transitions from paddle boats, to rowed ships and to sailed ships. There are also clear changes in the hulls that comes with each technological change
