HOLA, BIENVENIDOS… - ¡PUES VENGA, EMPEZAMOS! Análisis y evaluación de los métodos de enseñanza de español de dos canales educativos en YouTube

Abstract
A myriad of knowledge is transmitted through the Internet at all times. Learning a language at home from the computer with a native speaker is possible wherever you are in the world. YouTube channels that are devoted to educating are very popular among users and the importance of investigating this phenomena has been brought forward in several previous articles on the subject. The objective of this thesis is to analyze and evaluate the resources that are used to teach Spanish through eight representative cases extracted from two YouTube channels, in order to expand the existing knowledge on how successful educational videos are made outside the school or university environment. Prevailing theories about contemporary society, pedagogy and the cognitive aspect of learning a second language are presented as a theoretical framework. From the literature that is considered relevant, five evaluation dimensions (content quality, motivation, language and communication style, visual and auditory tools and technical qualities) are elaborated and applied to the analysis of the selected videos. The conclusion drawn is that the videos give very different impressions both visually and auditory and this is due to the fact that edutubers in many ways use different teaching resources in the videos. In addition, some open lines of research are discussed at the end.
